Winthrop REACHes is the official song for the Winthrop Elementary School, located in Melrose MA. It was written in the fall of 2015 by Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Alastair Moock, in collaboration with the 4th and 5th grade classes.
Who puts the first in First Street? We do!
Who puts the cool in our school? We do!
Who puts the rose in Melrose? We do!
Us together, we do!
At Winthrop we REACH for the stars and beyond
We strive and we give it our all
We stretch out our minds and we stretch out our hands
To high five when we pass in the hall
We put the win in Winthrop
When we REACH for the best in ourselves
We put the friend in friendship
When we REACH out to somebody else
R is for respect, it’s a practice we perfect
When our differences are something we embrace
On or off the Buddy Bench, we are all together friends
And everyone is welcome in this place
E is for effort, which means that we endeavor
To try our hardest, that’s always our goal
In the class or on a test, we always give our best
‘Cuz we’re wildcats and that’s just how we roll
A is for achieve – we believe we can succeed
Cuz at this school we are always REACHing up
In the classroom, in the schoolyard – all of us work real hard
And that’s what makes us winners at Winthrop
C, cooperation, it’s a key to education
We’re a team here so we help each other out
Taking turns working and playing, hearing what others are saying
That’s community, it’s what this school’s about
H for honesty, it’s a crucial quality
Of the kind of person we all want to be
You only cheat yourself when you lie to someone else
And that’s not fair to you or fair to me
So now you know why REACH is a term we want to teach
At the Winthrop School, of which we’re awfully proud
We even wrote this song and now you can sing along
Just jump on in and join us nice and loud!
